About The Drawing Hub
The Drawing Hub is founded in 2015 in Berlin by art historian and curator Jan Philipp-Fruehsorge, who ran a gallery specialising in drawing for over twelve years. The Drawing Hub is non-profit research center and presentation space devoting to contemporary drawing.
In recent times hardly any other artistic medium has enjoyed such a remarkably positive re-evaluation as the drawing. A hitherto unseen expansion can be detected, both in the number of artists working in the medium and in the spectrum of their graphic forms of expression.
But at the same time, it appears, this serious increase in significance has not been given its proper due. There are numerous excellent graphic collections in the German-speaking countries, but until now there has been no centre in Germany devoted to the presentation and research of contemporary drawing. The Drawing Hub has given itself the task of closing this gap and of supplementing and supporting public-sector institutions as a private initiative.
The Drawing Hub residency is a production/experiment space where artists can meet and work on individual or collaborative projects and ideas. The program is non-prescriptive and process-based, allowing artists to develop projects in response to their environment. The program aims to facilitate the international exchange and the exchange of ideas through artistic practice in the area of contemporary drawing.
The residency is a 2-month program (shorter periods are possible upon request) comprising of: weekly group critiques with the curator, regular artist talks, artist studio visits, final group exhibition and social media promotion. All talks, critiques and activities in the residency programme will be conducted in English.
